So I guess I haven't had a post in a while. I've been pretty busy the last few months with school and concrete canoe, so I haven't made too many cakes. First off I am proud to say the Iowa State University ASCE Concrete Canoe Team placed 2nd overall at the 2012 Midwest Regional Concrete Canoe Competition! The picture of the finished canoe is shown below. Trying to balance school (19 credits), work, a business, concrete canoe, and the frederiksen court community council has been pretty tough this semester. Hopefully I can make up for some of my grades with finals next week.....
So for cakes I only have only made two since my last post. The first one I made for my pavement design class. It is a representation of asphalt and concrete pavement in failure. The asphalt failure is alligator cracking, and the concrete failure is rupture/buckling. The cake was half chocolate and half vanilla with buttercream filling. My professor loved the cake and it was quite tasty to eat "pavement".
The second cake is a kraken cake to go with the theme of this years concrete canoe. The cake is chocolate with buttercream filling and rice crispies. The cake was carved from rounds and the tentacles are half cake, half rice crispies. I have included a picture of the cake before it was covered just so you have an idea of the inner workings of the cake.
Well that's all I have for now. I have quite a few cakes for this summer, so look forward to those soon!
